Robert Phillips is the EMEA President & CEO of Edelman, the world’s largest Public Relations firm.
Robert’s 25-year career includes co-founding the leading UK consumer boutique, Jackie Cooper PR, where – together with his business partner, Jackie Cooper – he conceived and delivered many iconic and award-winning campaigns, among them: PlayStation, Snapple, O2 and the original ‘Hello Boys’ work for Wonderbra. Having sold JCPR to Edelman in 2004, Robert became UK CEO of Edelman in 2007 and EMEA CEO in January 2011. Today, Robert continues to consult at senior level for companies including Shell, Microsoft, Diageo, Capital & Counties and Unilever, as well as run a business region with fees of $100 million+, and nearly 800 people in eighteen offices. His areas of expertise include the convergence of corporate and brand reputation; citizenship; and transformation towards new models of communications and business.
Robert’s various accolades include having two campaigns ranked in PR Week’s Top 20 Campaigns of All Time; and winning Consultancy of the Year for Edelman in 2009;a Gold Award in 2010; and EMEA Digital Agency of the Year in the same year.
He is the author of Edelman’s thinking on the future of the communications sector – Public Engagement – and is intimately involved with much of the company’s work on Trust. Robert is also the co-author of Citizen Renaissance (2008) and a frequent essayist on Citizenship and Democracy. ‘Civic Truths & Citizen Principles: The Reformation of Public Relations’ was published within the anthology ‘Where Truth Lies’ (2010).
